Well, I went to his memorial.
His mom remembered me; his dad didn't. His sister remembered me, and was amazing. I wish I'd known how nice she was back when he and I spoke more often, but back then she was clearly an adult and I was clearly a kid. She's devastated. She loved him so much.
I saw a lot of old teachers, including my fourth grade teacher, who is now about half my size. And she remembered me, and she remembered him, and she remembered how we were friends. I was just really grateful to be around people who were grieving for him. And a couple of people who were grieving for him and who knew I was too.
My parents want to do a charity or a scholarship in his name, and in a few weeks, we're going to contact his sister to offer to collaborate.
So I guess right now I feel sucky but fulfilled, somewhat.
And goddamnit, I still have 750 words to write.
