I have a kayak!

This is very good news. Years ago, when we used to lease a cottage in Florida (because it was cheaper than my dad staying in a hotel every time he went there for work), we owned a kayak, and I would take it out on the bayou. But I haven't been to Florida in years, and we ended up selling the kayak and giving up the lease, and so I haven't kayaked in a very long time.

But...I live in a city with three rivers. Kayaking is not an impossible venture here, and my sister recently moved into an apartment ten feet away from the Allegheny. So as my birthday (and Christmas) gift, my dad got me a kayak, which I used today for the first time, and which I am really. really. excited about.

Really.

(This is yet more incentive to stay in town for college. Hm. Perhaps this gift of my dad's isn't entirely selfless...)

UE has a river. Not that I would ever, ever go near it. Ever. But there is a river. And you could, theoretically, kiyak in it.

You can kayak on the Allegheny? Hmmmm... I drive over the rivers and they don't look suitable for human interaction, but perhaps I'm wrong :)

I wouldn't advise swimming in it (or fishing...), but yeah, it's kayak-able. They hold crew and canoe races on it, at least. And there's a place that rents out kayaks, along the bike trail beneath Red Fin Blues. And I think there's a kayak club, somewhere in the city.

Hmm, maybe I'll try it out. I always thought kayaing looked cool.

Shockingly, many people actually swim in the Allegheny. Really. No, really.

Yes, well. They are far, far braver than I am.

(Also, off topic...it's possible that you're someone I know who forgot to log in. But if not, I have no problem with anonymous comments; I just ask that you sign them.)

Definitely! It can be hard on your shoulders, but it's awesome and fun. And if you don't fall over, there's minimal contact with the water.
